A decade

After 10 years relationship:

  • Love is staying calm when you feel  everything is not the same anymore.
  • Love is believing that there is time for everything. There’s a time when you have to be the sole ‘financier’ in the house, and somehow still manage to do everything else.
  • Love is being patient when your spouse is not growing as you expected.
  • Love is thinking long and hard before you start a difficult conversation.
  • Love is accepting the result of that aforementioned difficult conversation.
  • Love is finding a time to sit down and sip coffee (cold with fresh milk) with your spouse, although the silence is also sitting there with both of you.
  • Love is finding the cold air and taking a long walk if you are so angry with your spouse because you know that staying in the same room at that particular moment is a terrible idea.

Maybe this is what love looks like when we grow up.
Not always grand gestures. Not always butterflies.
Sometimes, love is simply choosing not to make a difficult moment worse.

Sometimes, it is giving someone space.
Sometimes, it is giving yourself space.

And sometimes, it is sitting across from the person you have chosen, drinking your cold coffee in silence, and staying.
