Aparigraha

I found my focus word for April. Aparigraha;

In yoga philosophy, Aparigraha means non-attachment or non-possessiveness. It is one of the five Yamas (ethical foundations described by Sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras) that guide how we live in harmony with ourselves and the world.

At its heart, Aparigraha encourages you to let go of excess, both physically and emotionally. It reminds us that lasting peace doesn’t come from collecting things, achievements, or praise, but from learning to trust that we already have enough.

Practicing Aparigraha invites you to:

  • Loosen attachment to possessions and outcomes
  • Release emotions or habits that no longer serve you
  • Find contentment in simplicity
  • Trust life’s natural rhythm

I found that in google. And I think this word fits beautifully with my grand theme for 2026: Light. Becoming light and carrying less weight, emotionally.

So I’ve been practicing no shopping fast fashion for since 2025.. the result? Well… It’s safe to say I have my good days and my low days 😅. But my attitude is definitely shifting for the past one and a half years. Before I cannot browse the mall and *not* find something cheap to buy just because I can. Yes my lovelies, despite my giant debts. But now… I can go straight to the mall, walk the mall terrain for 2 or 3 km at the lunch break ( yes, my workplace is situated right next to a big mall in this city). And I can read all the promotion taglines and not a single nerve in my body screams because of the up to 70% discount anymore.

But now… On next Tuesday, we will have a photo shoot for a new office id card. I should wear black collar shirt top. Now… I don’t have a black collar top. And I’m actually considering buying a new shirt for this… But .. then the universe seems to disagree with me… I don’t see any reason for the word aparigraha comes up at this time 😅😅.

So… Let this be another peaceful path for a lighter life. Less to have… Less to worry about. Amen.
