Afraid

I’m still scared about a lot of things. Really. But now I know it’s my brain actively scanning everything around me for potential threats. Humans evolve this way. The brain has not considered that this is 2026. Everything has changed since the era humans live in the savannah, but the brain, well let’s just say, our brain evolution is not as fast as our environment revolution.

Now the food is not scarce (at least I can eat three times a day), a warm home, and a safe environment is a regular thing, but the brain is still doing it’s duty since many millennia ago, so now an unanswered message, debts, haze, health issues, crime news, an “unusual” look from a colleague, all of these mundane things have potential threats according to this hyperactive brain.

Okey brain, you had me for about ten minutes, you made me worry so much. And i think that’s more than enough. Thank you for reminding me about all these potential threats.. but my dearest brain, c’est la vie. I’m no longer able to worry 24/7, I have no energy left. I’m tired, physically and mentally. So I’m expecting a brain that is working well and also supportive for me.

No, the goal isn’t to make my beautiful hyperactive brain stop scanning for threats.
That system is useful. I want it to become better at distinguishing “danger” from “uncertainty.”

An unanswered message is uncertainty.
A colleague looking unusual is uncertainty.
A future bill is a problem to be handled, not necessarily an emergency.
A frightening news story is information, not necessarily an immediate threat.

So .. exhale inhale… The day is finished, and I have fought well today. It’s time to rest.
