I just finished her memoir, finding me. An eye opener, an honest account of one life- no sugar coating, but it’s not … Vulgar either. I read it in two sittings, and after the book finished, I needed time to just exhale and let Viola’s stories make their way into my mind.
The best part of this book, for me – is that it’s really not zero to the hero’s journey, it’s about life that continues to happen regardless of your personal situations. Life keeps going while you’re depressed, broken hearted, got fibroids, your family torn apart, you’re failing, and it definitely ain’t stopping just because you need a series of therapy to heal from childhood traumas.
And to be able to walk to the point where you’re no longer defined yourself from your past mistakes, from your traumas, from your family situation is a great winning moment. The ability to finally understand that not all problems in the family are yours to solve also a significant signal that you’re growing.
But lo and behold, a clearer sight of everything also puts you in difficult moments from time to time. You see that your parents too have her own traumatic experiences, and she has no facilities or support to process the trauma, you understand that to heal yourself is not the most important, it’s the foundation of a healthy relationship, but it’s you who only gets the idea, and no one in the family does. It’s difficult.
Phew… It’s a good book then? It’s a great book! And for me.. it’s also an eye opener, I said that earlier.
Happy Sunday everyone
