What do you notice about your thoughts when you try to slow down?
In the running world, there’s a quote like this: you have to know how to slow down to be able to speed up. It seems contradictory, but c’est la vie. Small steps but consistent will make you cover a farther distance than a big leap done once in a while.
I am learning to slow down now… And I am not a fast learner. I start the day slowly now, when the alarm wakes me up, I am not rushing to the kitchen or to the bathroom as I normally would. I do light stretching exercises for 7-10 minutes, then when I sit down after the morning shower, I meditate for 10 minutes. Then I write; old fashioned writing, with pen and book…about 4-5 minutes.
My thoughts: That’s 25 minutes! What a waste of time! I am definitely going to be late to work! And it’s raining, street jam! this meditation is not going to help me at all. My back hurts, the stretching seems ineffective for me, or am I doing the stretching wrong? Hey I really like this meditation session in the morning… Yep… A very chaotic and unstoppable thought…
But I can notice this pattern of thoughts now…. I like this slowing down time.. I hope I can maintain this 30-ish minutes time allocation every day to start the day.
