A Letter to the Woman Who Thought One Meditation Might Fix Everything

Dear you,
The one who thought one meditation might fix everything.

I’ve been thinking about you tonight. I read your notes — the ones you wrote back in 2017. I imagine what you were thinking when you enrolled in that online happiness course at one of the lowest points in your life. Did you believe that by applying some scientific steps, you could find your happiness again? You had this weird logic that still amuses me, darling.

And I thank you — truly — for that rather expensive meditation app subscription. I don’t think you could really afford it, but you did it anyway. Yes, we use a different app now, here in 2025 — cheaper (plus point!) and simpler in many ways.

You walked a difficult path to tame your monkey mind: Coursera, books, that pricey app, and the occasional vacation that stretched your credit card far too thin. You did all of that to find yourself again. You knew everything has a price, and to build a new you, it would cost you your old self.

I’m sorry I judged you — called you irresponsible, bad with money. It’s been hard paying off the debt you left behind, but hey… I see you now. You did what you had to do. And I’m glad you did it. I’m grateful we’re at this point now, eight years later. It’s all because of you.

I know now that meditation isn’t rigid — you do what works for you. And I’ve come to understand that this monkey mind feeds on distraction. The less we distract ourselves, the calmer we become. I am grateful for you dear. Thank you.

With love,
Your future self
— calmer, clearer, and still a little amused.
